**Larry Niven** (born 1938) is an American science fiction author known for his imaginative and scientifically detailed works. Born in Los Angeles, California, Niven developed an interest in science fiction early on. He began writing in the 1960s, and his first novel, "World of Ptavvs," was published in 1966.
