Frank Herbert (1920-1986) was an acclaimed American science fiction author best known for his epic novel "Dune" (1965). Herbert was born in Tacoma, Washington, and had a varied career before becoming a writer, including stints as a photographer, journalist, and environmentalist. His experiences shaped his literary themes of ecology, politics, and human nature. "Dune" captivated readers with its complex world-building, philosophical undertones, and memorable characters. It won the Nebula Award and the Hugo Award in 1966. Herbert expanded the universe in five sequels and numerous prequels and side stories. Herbert's other notable works include "The God Emperor of Dune" (1981), "Heretics of Dune" (1984), and "Chapterhouse: Dune" (1985). He received numerous awards, including the Grand Master Nebula Award in 1985. His works have been critically acclaimed for their imaginative power, profound insights, and enduring impact on science fiction literature.
