Frank Herbert (1920-1986) was an acclaimed American science fiction author best known for his epic novel "Dune" (1965). Herbert was born in Tacoma, Washington, and had a varied career before becoming a writer, including stints as a photographer, journalist, and environmentalist. His experiences shaped his literary themes of ecology, politics, and human nature. "Dune" captivated readers with its complex world-building, philosophical undertones, and memorable characters. It won the Nebula Award and the Hugo Award in 1966. Herbert expanded the universe in five sequels and numerous prequels and side stories.
