Denise Mina (born 1966) is a Scottish crime fiction writer. A former journalist and community worker, Mina turned to writing in 1998. Her debut novel, "Garnethill," introduced Detective Inspector Alex Morrow and won the John Creasey (New Blood) Dagger Award for Best First Novel. Mina's subsequent Morrow novels have continued to garner critical acclaim, with "The Field of Blood" (2005) winning the CWA Gold Dagger Award for Best Crime Novel. Mina is also known for her stand-alone novels, such as "Resolution" (2012) and "The Less Dead" (2019). She has written for television and comics, and her work has been translated into multiple languages. Mina has been praised for her complex characters, sharp social commentary, and atmospheric writing style. She is widely regarded as one of the leading contemporary Scottish crime writers.
