L.A. Banks (born LaToya Ashante Banks) is an American urban fantasy author. Born in West Baltimore, Maryland, she showed an early passion for writing. However, it was only after earning a degree in psychology and working in corporate America for over a decade that she began writing professionally. Banks is the creator of two successful fantasy series: the "Vampire Huntress Legend" and the "Crimson Moon" series. The "Vampire Huntress Legend" series, which debuted in 2003 with "The Vampire Huntress," features the adventures of Damali Richards, a vampire huntress with a troubled past. The series has sold over 2 million copies worldwide and has been translated into multiple languages. Banks's work has garnered critical acclaim for its strong female protagonists, fast-paced action, and exploration of social themes. She has received several awards, including the RT Reviewer's Choice Award for Best Urban Fantasy Novel in 2007 and 2008.
