D. E. Stevenson (1892-1973) was a prolific British author of over 60 novels, many of which were set in Scotland. Born in Edinburgh, she traveled extensively and drew inspiration from her experiences for her writing. Her novels are known for their charming settings, gentle humor, and well-developed characters. Stevenson's most famous work is "The Five Jars" (1944), which won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize. This novel tells the story of a group of women who form a close friendship during World War II. Other notable works include "Mrs. Tim Carries On" (1941) and "Miss Buncle's Book" (1936). Stevenson received numerous awards and accolades for her writing. In addition to the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, she was awarded the Gold Medal of the Scottish Arts Council in 1960. Her work continues to be enjoyed by readers worldwide, and she is considered one of the most beloved British authors of the 20th century.
