**William Greenleaf (1893-1968)** William Greenleaf was an American author best known for his mystery and suspense novels. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Greenleaf worked as a journalist before turning to writing full-time. His first novel, "The Corpse in the Fireplace," was published in 1928 and introduced his popular detective character, Prof. Henry Morgan. Greenleaf wrote over 40 novels, including "The House in Darkness" (1929), "The Castle of Fear" (1932), and "Shadow of the Bat" (1939). His books were praised for their intricate plots, complex characters, and atmospheric settings. Greenleaf received an Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America in 1952 for his short story "The Black Death." His novels enjoyed critical success and were widely read during their time, but their popularity has waned over the years.
