Victoria Thompson is an American author best known for her historical mystery novels. Born in 1959 in New York City, Thompson developed a fascination with history at a young age. After graduating from college, she worked as a journalist and editor before turning to writing fiction. Her debut novel, "Gaslight," was published in 2003 and introduced Sarah Brandt, a female detective in turn-of-the-century New York City. The novel was a critical and commercial success, launching a popular series that has sold millions of copies worldwide. Thompson's books are praised for their historical accuracy, complex characters, and gripping plots.
