Susan Cooper (1935-present) is an English children's and young adult author known for her fantasy and historical fiction. Born in Burnham, Buckinghamshire, Cooper began writing as a child. Her first published novel, "Over Sea, Under Stone," was released in 1965 and introduced the character Will Stanton, who would appear in several of her subsequent works. Cooper's most famous series, "The Dark Is Rising," follows a group of children with magical powers who must confront an ancient evil. The first book in the series, "Over Sea, Under Stone," won the Carnegie Medal in 1966. Cooper's other notable works include "The Grey King," "Greenwitch," and "The Boggart." Throughout her career, Cooper has received numerous awards for her writing, including the Children's Literature Legacy Award from the American Library Association in 2009. Her books have been translated into more than 20 languages and have sold millions of copies worldwide.
