Sue Grafton (1940-2017) was an American author known for her critically acclaimed "alphabet series" of mystery novels. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, she began writing after working as a tax analyst and medical secretary. Grafton published her first novel, "A" is for Alibi, in 1982. The series featured private investigator Kinsey Millhone and received widespread praise for its complex characters and engaging mysteries. Grafton wrote all 26 books in the series, ending with "Y" is for Yesterday in 2017. Her novels have sold over 100 million copies worldwide and have been translated into 32 languages. Grafton received numerous awards, including the Mystery Writers of America Grand Master Award and the British Crime Writers' Association Gold Dagger Award. Her work has been adapted into television and film. Grafton's writing is known for its strong female characters, witty dialogue, and intricate plots. She was praised for her ability to explore contemporary social issues within the framework of crime fiction.
