Stephen W. Frey is an American mystery and thriller author. He holds a degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Frey has worked as a reporter, editor, and public relations executive. He is best known for his Mitch Rapp series of thrillers, featuring a CIA counter-terrorist operative. Frey's first novel, "The Fourth Detachment" (1996), introduced Rapp and was a critical and commercial success. Since then, he has written over 20 novels in the series, which have sold millions of copies worldwide. His other notable works include the stand-alone thrillers "Silent Attack" (2011) and "The Last Man Standing" (2018). Frey's books have been translated into more than 50 languages and have been adapted into several films and television series. He has received numerous awards, including the Thriller Award for Best Novel and the International Thriller Writers Award for ThrillerMaster. His books have been praised for their fast-paced action, intricate plots, and well-developed characters.
