Anne Perry, born Juliet Marion Hulme on October 29, 1938, is a British-New Zealand historical crime fiction writer. Born in London and raised in New Zealand, Perry's childhood was marked by a controversial murder case in which she was involved and subsequently institutionalized. Perry began writing mystery novels in the 1970s, and her early works featured Victorian-era detective Thomas Pitt and his wife Charlotte. Her books have been translated into over 30 languages and have sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. Perry's novels have received critical acclaim for their historical accuracy, complex characters, and suspenseful plots. Among her many awards, Perry has received the CWA Silver Dagger Award and the Edgar Award for Best Novel. She has also been nominated for the Anthony Award and the Macavity Award. Her literary success has brought her widespread recognition and established her as a leading figure in the historical crime fiction genre.
