Mercedes Lackey is an American fantasy author born on June 24, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois. Lackey's professional writing career began in 1983 with the publication of "Arrows of the Queen." Since then, she has become widely acclaimed for her prolificacy, writing over 100 novels and short stories primarily within the fantasy genre. Her notable works include the Valdemar series, the Elemental Masters series, and many others set within shared fictional universes or standalone worlds.
