Gyles Brandreth (born 1948) is a British writer, broadcaster, and former politician. Educated at Westminster School and Oxford University, Brandreth began his career as a politician, serving as Member of Parliament for Chester from 1992 to 1997. He later shifted to a career in writing, publishing over 100 books, including biographies, novels, and children's literature. Among his notable works is the bestselling "The 7 Secrets of Happiness" (2010), which explores the pursuit of contentment. He has also authored popular books on the lives of Oscar Wilde, Queen Victoria, and Queen Elizabeth II. Brandreth's writing has received critical acclaim for its wit, insight, and accessible style. He has been praised for his ability to make complex subjects both engaging and entertaining.
