Jim Butcher (born October 26, 1971) is an American fantasy author, best known for his Dresden Files series of novels. Butcher was born in Independence, Missouri, and graduated from Northeast Missouri State University in 1993 with a degree in English. He began writing in 1996 and published his first novel, Storm Front, in 2000. The Dresden Files series features Harry Dresden, a wizard who investigates supernatural cases in Chicago. The series has sold over 11 million copies and has been translated into over 30 languages. Butcher has also written several short stories and novellas, and he has contributed to several anthologies. He has won numerous awards, including the Scribe Award (2003) and the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer (2001). Butcher's work has been praised for its fast-paced action, engaging characters, and imaginative world-building. He is considered one of the most popular fantasy authors of his generation.
