His debut novel, "Chiefs," was published in 1981, introducing readers to the charismatic attorney Stone Barrington. Barrington quickly became a popular character, and Woods went on to write numerous sequels featuring the character, along with several standalone novels. Over his prolific career, Woods published over 100 best-selling books that entertained millions worldwide. He received recognition for his work, including the Southern Literary Journal Award in 2009. However, his critical acclaim was limited, as his books were often criticized for their formulaic plots and characters.
