Steve Hamilton is an American author known for his mystery and crime novels. Born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1955, Hamilton developed a passion for writing at a young age. After graduating from the University of Michigan, he worked as a journalist and editor before turning to fiction writing in the late 1990s. Hamilton's debut novel, "A Cold Day in Paradise," was published in 1998 and introduced readers to his iconic character, Alex McKnight. The novel was met with critical acclaim, winning the Edgar Award for Best First Novel and the Great Lakes Book Award for Fiction. Since then, Hamilton has written over 20 novels featuring McKnight, earning a reputation for his complex plots, compelling characters, and evocative prose.
