Born in 1953 in Plantation, Florida, he graduated from Emory University and worked as a reporter and columnist for The Miami Herald for over twenty years. Hiaasen's debut novel, "Tourist Season," was published in 1986 and established his signature style of satire, environmentalism, and quirky characters. He has since written numerous best-selling novels, including "Skin Tight" (1989), "Native Tongue" (1991), " Stormy Weather" (1995), and "Bad Monkey" (2013). Hiaasen's works have been praised for their wit, sharp observations, and advocacy for environmental and social issues in Florida. He has received several awards, including the Zolotow Award for his children's book "Hoot" (2002) and the National Book Award for "Bad Monkey."
