Eileen Goudge was a British author who lived from 1905 to 1987. She was known for her heartwarming and humorous novels set in the Scottish Highlands, many of which feature the lovable character of Granny Macdonald. Despite facing personal challenges, Goudge gained recognition for her writing. Her novel "Green Dolphin Street," published in 1944, became a bestseller and was later adapted into a film of the same name. She also authored "The Bird in the Tree" (1940), "City of Bells" (1946), and "The Dean's Watch" (1955), among others. Goudge's works have been praised for their vivid characters and their ability to capture the essence of Scottish life. She received the Carnegie Medal for Children's Literature in 1961 for her novel "The Middle Window." Her novels continue to be enjoyed by readers worldwide.
