Jack Higgins (1929-2023) was a prolific British thriller writer. Born Henry Patterson, he served in the British Army before becoming a journalist and then a full-time writer. Higgins's novels are known for their fast-paced action, intricate plots, and well-developed characters. His most famous creation, Sean Dillon, is a former IRA member turned mercenary. Higgins's other notable works include "The Eagle Has Landed" (1975), "The Midnight Bell" (1988), and "Day of Reckoning" (2002). Higgins received numerous awards, including the Crime Writers' Association Silver Dagger Award (1975) for "The Eagle Has Landed."
