Robert Ludlum (1927-2001) was an American author renowned for his international thriller novels. Born in New York City, Ludlum served in the US Marine Corps before pursuing a career in acting. When an injury forced him to abandon acting, he turned to writing. His debut novel, "The Scarlatti Inheritance" (1971), introduced the iconic character Jason Bourne. The "Bourne Trilogy" (1980-1990) cemented Ludlum's reputation as a master of suspense. Other notable works include "The Chancellor Manuscript" (1977), "The Matarese Circle" (1979), and "The Bourne Supremacy" (1986). Ludlum's novels have been translated into over 30 languages and sold over 300 million copies worldwide. He received numerous awards, including the Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America for Best Novel. His critical success stemmed from his ability to combine compelling characters, intricate plots, and a deep understanding of international affairs.
