John Sandford (born John Roswell Camp, 1944) is an American author best known for his popular mystery and thriller novels. Before writing full-time, Sandford worked as a journalist for the St. Paul Pioneer Press. He began writing novels in the late 1980s and published his first Prey novel, Rules of Prey, in 1989. The series features Lucas Davenport, a Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agent. Sandford's books have sold over 40 million copies worldwide and have been translated into 40 languages. He has won several awards, including the Edgar Award for Best Novel in 1999 for Rules of Prey. His novels have also been adapted into a television series, "Prey," which ran from 1998 to 2002. In addition to the Prey series, Sandford has also written several stand-alone novels and non-fiction books. His work is known for its fast-paced action, intricate plots, and well-developed characters. Sandford has been praised by critics for his ability to create suspenseful and entertaining stories.
