Steve Martini is an American author of legal and crime fiction novels. After obtaining a Juris Doctor degree from Hastings College of the Law, he worked as a lawyer and prosecutor for several years before transitioning to writing. Martini's breakthrough novel was "Compulsion" (1992), which became a bestseller and has been translated into numerous languages. The book was adapted into a film of the same name in 1997. He continued to publish successful legal thrillers throughout the 1990s and 2000s, including the "Paul Madriani" series and several stand-alone novels. Martini's works have received critical acclaim and various awards, including the Anthony Award for Best Novel in 1993 for "Compulsion" and the Macavity Award in 1996 for "The Judge."
