**Andrew Greeley (1928-2013)** Andrew Greeley was an American priest, sociologist, and prolific author. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he became a priest in 1954. After teaching sociology at the University of Chicago, he moved to the University of Arizona, where he remained until his retirement. Greeley wrote over 50 novels, many of which became bestsellers. His works explored themes of Catholicism, Irish-American culture, and human sexuality. Notable novels include "The Cardinal Sins" (1980), "The Last Testament" (1990), and the Father Matthew Koesler mysteries. Greeley's sociological research focused on religion, ethnicity, and the social sciences. His books on these topics include "Unsecular Man" (1972) and "The Catholic Myth" (1970). He also co-authored The American Catholic Documentary (1977-1990), a comprehensive survey of American Catholics. Greeley received the National Medal of Arts in 2008 for his contributions to American literature. His works were praised for their insights into American society and their relatable characters.
