David Archer is a geoscientist and professor at the University of Chicago. His research focuses on the carbon cycle, paleoclimatology, and the global carbon budget. He has authored over 100 scientific publications and is a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Archer received his B.A. in earth sciences from Dartmouth College in 1984 and his Ph.D. in geochemistry from the California Institute of Technology in 1990. He was awarded the James B. Macelwane Medal from the American Geophysical Union in 2007 for his outstanding contributions to the field of geophysics. Archer's work has been featured in numerous publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Scientific American. He has also appeared on television and radio programs, such as The Colbert Report and The Weather Channel.
