C. J. Cherryh (born November 1, 1942) is an American science fiction and fantasy writer. She has authored over 90 novels and short stories in multiple series, including the Foreigner universe, the Alliance-Union universe, and the Morgaine trilogy. Cherryh's works are widely acclaimed for their intricate worldbuilding and character development. She has won multiple awards for her writing, including three Hugo Awards, two Nebula Awards, and a Locus Award. Her influential 1978 novel "Downbelow Station" won the Nebula Award for Best Novel and Locus Award for Best Science Fiction Novel. This marked the beginning of her Foreigner universe, which has gained significant critical and commercial success. Cherryh's works are praised for their depth, realism, and exploration of complex social and political themes. She is considered one of the most significant figures in science fiction and has inspired numerous writers in the genre.
