Barbara Cameron (1925-1993) was an American writer best known for her mystery novels and non-fiction works on true crime. Born in Pennsylvania, she began her writing career as a journalist before turning to fiction. Cameron's debut novel, "Freddy's Book," was published in 1964 and featured the character of Freddy Clayton, a journalist who solves mysteries. She went on to write over 20 mystery novels, including the "Johnnie McFee" and "Jayne Wilson" series. In addition to her fiction, Cameron also authored several non-fiction books on true crime, such as "Indefensible" (1986) and "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" (1988). Her work was praised for its meticulous research, compelling storytelling, and strong female characters. Cameron received critical acclaim and numerous awards for her writing, including the Edgar Allan Poe Award from the Mystery Writers of America. She was a respected figure in the mystery genre, known for her sharp wit, unique characters, and ability to blend entertainment with social commentary.
