Linda O. Johnston was an American children's book author. Many of her books were about horses and riding, but she also wrote about a variety of other topics, including nature, animals, and family life. Johnston's books have been praised for their accuracy, sensitivity, and engaging storytelling. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Children's Book of the Year Award from the American Library Association. Johnston was born in California in 1943. She grew up on a horse ranch and began riding at a young age. She attended the University of California, Davis, where she studied animal science. After graduating, she worked as a horse trainer and instructor. In 1976, she published her first book, "The Horse From Black Bear Bog." Since then, she has written over 50 books for children. Johnston's books have been translated into many languages and have sold millions of copies worldwide. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Children's Book of the Year Award from the American Library Association. She has also been honored by the Western Writers of America and the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.
