Dorothy Dunnett (1923-2001) was a Scottish historical novelist. Born Dorothy Halliday in Dunfermline, Fife, Dunnett began writing in her teens. Dunnett's meticulous research and evocative prose earned her widespread acclaim. Dunnett also wrote the House of Niccolò series (1961-1975) and standalone novels like "King Hereafter" (1982). Her works combine historical accuracy with thrilling adventures and memorable characters. Dunnett received numerous awards, including the Gold Dagger Award from the British Crime Writers' Association (1984) and the Macavity Award for Best Historical Mystery Novel (1987). Her novels remain highly regarded for their gripping plots, nuanced characters, and vivid depiction of historical periods.
