Jane Whitefield

**Thomas Perry** (born 1949) is an American mystery and thriller writer. Born in Tonawanda, New York, Perry studied at the University of Rochester and the University of Southern California. After working as a private investigator, he turned to writing full-time in 1980. Perry's debut novel, "The Butcher's Boy" (1982), introduced Detective Jane Whitefield, a recurring character in his series. He has also written standalone thrillers and novels featuring other protagonists, including the Jane Doe series and the standalone "The Old Man." Perry's work has garnered critical acclaim for its suspenseful plots, well-developed characters, and psychological depth. He has won the Edgar Award (twice) and the Anthony Award. His novels have been translated into over 25 languages and adapted into films and television series. Despite his success, Perry remains a private person, rarely giving interviews or attending public events.
