Robin Cook (born 1940) is an American medical thriller author and retired physician. He graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1968 and practiced ophthalmology in Massachusetts. Cook began writing in the 1980s, and his first novel, "Coma" (1977), became a bestseller. He has since written over 40 novels, which have sold over 100 million copies worldwide. Notable works include "Outbreak" (1987), "Sphinx" (1996), and "Vector" (2006). Cook's novels explore the ethical dilemmas and dangers of modern medicine, combining medical knowledge with suspenseful storytelling.
