Karin Fossum (born November 6, 1954) is a Norwegian author known for her crime fiction novels and short stories. Fossum's writing career began with short stories in the late 1970s. Her breakthrough came with the 1995 novel "Evas øye" ("Eva's Eye") which introduced Inspector Konrad Sejer, her recurring protagonist. The novel won the Riverton Prize for Best Norwegian Crime Novel and launched a successful series featuring Sejer. Fossum's novels have been critically acclaimed for their psychological depth, atmospheric writing, and exploration of themes such as loneliness, grief, and the fragility of human relationships. She has won numerous awards, including the Norwegian Booksellers' Prize (1996) and the Glass Key Award (2003). Her work has been translated into over 20 languages and has gained a wide international following. Outside of her crime fiction, Fossum has also written children's books and essays on social issues.
