M.C. Beaton (1936-2022) was the pseudonym of Marion Chesney, a prolific British author best known for her cozy mystery and historical fiction series. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, she began writing in her 50s as a way to fund her travels. Beaton's most famous series is the Hamish Macbeth mysteries, featuring a Scottish police constable in a remote village. These books became international bestsellers and were adapted into a popular BBC television series. She also wrote the Agatha Raisin and Scottish Women's Murder Club mysteries, as well as the historical fiction series set in Edwardian England. Beaton received several awards for her work, including the Romantic Novelists' Association Gold Medal and the Crime Writers' Association Diamond Dagger. Her books have been translated into over 30 languages and have sold millions of copies worldwide, establishing her as one of the most popular and successful British authors of her time.
