Eric Flint is an American science fiction and fantasy author known for his alternate history series "1632". Born in 1954, Flint graduated from the University of California, San Diego, in 1976 with a degree in biology. He worked in various fields before becoming a full-time writer in the early 1990s. Flint's breakthrough came with the publication of "1632" (2000), which launched a sprawling series of over 70 novels set in a world where 17th-century West Virginia is transplanted into the present. The series has won numerous awards, including the Sidewise Award for Alternate History in 2001. Flint is also known for his "Ring of Fire" series, which reimagines the American Civil War as a conflict between technologically advanced powers, and his "Crown of Slaves" trilogy, which explores the complex relationships between humans and sentient animals. Throughout his career, Flint has received critical acclaim for his detailed worldbuilding, engaging characters, and thought-provoking themes. His works have been translated into multiple languages and adapted into comics and audiobooks.
