Anne Perry, born Juliet Marion Hulme on October 29, 1938, is a British-New Zealand historical crime fiction writer. Born in London and raised in New Zealand, Perry's childhood was marked by a controversial murder case in which she was involved and subsequently institutionalized. Perry began writing mystery novels in the 1970s, and her early works featured Victorian-era detective Thomas Pitt and his wife Charlotte.
