Randy Wayne White (born December 1, 1950) is an American author best known for his mystery novels set in the Everglades of Florida. Raised in Fort Myers, White, a former newspaper reporter and fishing guide, began writing professionally in the late 1970s. His 1990 novel, "Sanibel Flats," introduced marine biologist Doc Ford, a recurring character who has appeared in over 20 subsequent novels.
