Ed Greenwood (born March 18, 1959) is a Canadian author best known for his Forgotten Realms campaign setting for Dungeons & Dragons. A resident of Toronto, Greenwood began writing for the hobby gaming magazine Dragon in the early 1980s. He created the Forgotten Realms as a setting for his home campaign. Greenwood has written over 200 works within the Forgotten Realms setting, including novels, short stories, and sourcebooks. His notable works include the "Forgotten Realms" novels, such as "Shadow of the Avatar" (1991) and "Spellfire" (1994). He has also written several sourcebooks for the "Forgotten Realms" setting, including "Volo's Guide to Waterdeep" (1992) and "Underdark" (1993). Greenwood has won numerous awards for his work, including the Origins Award for Best Game-Related Novel (twice), and the Golden Pen Award from the World Fantasy Awards. He has also been inducted into the Origins Hall of Fame. Greenwood's contributions to the fantasy genre and the "Forgotten Realms" setting have been highly acclaimed by critics and fans alike. He has been praised for his detailed world-building, prolificacy, and engaging storytelling.
