Donald Edwin Westlake (1933-2008), also known by pseudonyms Tucker Coe, Samuel Holt, and Richard Stark, was an American writer of crime fiction and other genres. Westlake's prolific career spanned over 100 novels and short stories. His best-known works include the "Parker" series featuring a professional thief, the "Dortmunder" series about a group of incompetent criminals, and the "Richard Stark" novels involving a sociopathic killer. Westlake received numerous awards for his writing, including four Edgar Awards from the Mystery Writers of America. His work has been praised for its wit, realism, and exploration of the psychological complexities of criminals. Despite his critical success, Westlake remained largely unknown to the general public.
