**Eve Bunting** (born 1928) is an American writer of children's and young adult literature. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Bunting moved to the United States in 1950. She began writing in the 1970s, and has since published over 180 books. Her work often explores themes of family, friendship, and social issues. Bunting's notable works include "Smoky Night" (1995), which won the Newbery Medal, and "Fly Away Home" (1991), which won the National Book Award for Young People's Literature. She has also received the Margaret A. Edwards Award from the American Library Association for her significant and lasting contribution to young adult literature.
