Diana Gabaldon is an American author best known for her Outlander series of historical time travel novels. Born in 1952 in Arizona, she earned a PhD in ecology from Northern Arizona University. Gabaldon's writing career began with a research trip to Scotland, inspiring her to pen the first Outlander novel in 1991. The series follows the adventures of Claire Randall, a 20th-century nurse who travels back in time to 18th-century Scotland. With over 50 million copies sold worldwide, the Outlander series has been translated into 37 languages and adapted into a successful television series. Gabaldon has won numerous awards, including the Nebula Award for Best Novel in 1993 and the Quill Award for Best Historical Fiction in 2008.
