Adrian McKinty is an Irish-Australian crime writer. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1968, he spent his early years in England before emigrating to Australia with his family in 1979. He studied journalism at Murdoch University in Perth, and worked as a reporter and editor until 2005. McKinty is best known for his crime novels set in Australia, featuring Detective Inspector Sean Duffy. His first novel, "The Cold Cold Ground" (2007), won the Ned Kelly Award for Best First Fiction. He has since published over 20 novels, including the "Hidden" series, set in the American South during the Great Depression. McKinty's work has been translated into over 30 languages and has received numerous awards, including the Ned Kelly Award for Best Crime Novel multiple times. He has also been nominated for the Edgar Award, the Shamus Award, and the Anthony Award. His novels have been praised for their atmospheric settings, complex characters, and gripping plots.
