John G. Hemry (born August 8, 1951) is a retired naval officer and an American science fiction author who writes under the pen name Jack Campbell. Born in South Dakota, he served in the United States Navy for 20 years, retiring as a commander. He began writing science fiction while still in the Navy, and he published his first novel, "The Lost Fleet: Dauntless", in 2006. Campbell's Lost Fleet series has been a critical and commercial success, with over 10 novels and multiple spin-off series. His work has been praised for its realistic portrayal of space combat and its compelling characters. Campbell has won numerous awards for his work, including the Prometheus Award and the John W. Campbell Memorial Award. He is a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America and the Authors Guild.
