David Poyer is an American author primarily known for his work in the horror and fantasy genres. He has published several novels and short story collections throughout his career. Born in 1944 in Glendale, California, Poyer attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied English. After graduating, he worked as a teacher and a technical writer before turning to writing full-time. Poyer's writing often explores themes of fear, violence, and the supernatural. His most notable novel, "The Village of the Damned" (1974), which was later adapted into a film of the same name, follows a group of children with supernatural powers. Poyer has received several awards for his work, including the Bram Stoker Award for Best First Novel in 1985 for "The Damnation Game." His short stories have been featured in various anthologies and magazines. While his works have seen critical success, his overall popularity remains within the niche horror and fantasy communities.
