Barbara Freethy is an American author of contemporary and historical romance novels. She has written over 50 books, which have been translated into 28 languages and have sold over 10 million copies worldwide. Born in New York City, Freethy earned a degree in English from the University of California, Berkeley. She worked as a journalist and marketing director before turning to writing full-time. Freethy's novels are known for their strong heroines, emotional depth, and compelling plots. She has won numerous awards for her work, including the Romance Writers of America's RITA Award and the National Reader's Choice Award. Her books have been praised by critics for their "unforgettable characters" and "heart-wrenching love stories." Freethy currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area with her family.
