Michael Dibdin (1947-2007) was an English crime writer known for his Inspector Aurelio Zen series, set in Italy. Born in Wolverhampton, Dibdin worked as a teacher before becoming a full-time writer. His first Zen novel, "Ratking," was published in 1988 and garnered critical acclaim. The series featured the cynical and complex Detective Aurelio Zen, tackling intricate crimes in the labyrinthine Italian bureaucracy. Dibdin's works received numerous accolades, including the Crime Writers' Association Gold Dagger Award twice (1991 and 1996). He was also shortlisted for the Edgar Award three times.
