Anne Tyler (born October 25, 1941) is an American author known for her novels exploring family relationships and domestic life. Born in Minneapolis, Tyler grew up in North Carolina and graduated from Duke University. Tyler's writing career began with short stories published in The New Yorker. Her debut novel, "If Morning Ever Comes" (1964), was followed by notable works such as "Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant" (1982), which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, and "Breathing Lessons" (1988), which was adapted into a film. Tyler's novels have received critical acclaim for their insightful characters, humor, and exploration of human nature. She has received numerous awards, including the National Book Critics Circle Award and the PEN/Faulkner Award. In 2020, she was presented with the National Medal of Arts. Tyler continues to write and is considered one of the most esteemed literary figures in contemporary American fiction.
