Nevada Barr is an American crime novelist best known for her Anna Pigeon mystery series. Born in 1952 in Ypsilanti, Michigan, she worked as a park ranger in the National Park Service for 20 years before becoming a full-time writer. Barr's Anna Pigeon series features a female park ranger/naturalist who solves crimes in national parks. The first novel in the series, "Track of the Cat," won the 1993 Agatha Award for Best First Novel and the 1994 Anthony Award for Best First Novel. Barr has since written over 20 novels in the series, which has been praised for its engaging characters, suspenseful plots, and vivid depiction of park settings. In addition to her mystery novels, Barr has also written several works of non-fiction, including "National Parks: Discovering the Parks That Lewis & Clark Found" and "The Great Escape: A True Story of a Woman Who Risked Everything to Save the Jews." She has received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career and is widely recognized as one of the leading authors in the mystery genre.
