Adam Dalgliesh

Phyllis Dorothy James, known by her pen name P. D. James, was a renowned British crime writer, poet, and dramatist. Born in 1920 in Oxford, James began her writing career while working as a civil servant for the National Health Service. Her breakthrough came in 1962 with the publication of her first novel, "Cover Her Face," featuring Detective Superintendent Adam Dalgliesh. Over the following decades, James published 14 Dalgliesh novels, establishing herself as a master of the crime genre. Her works were praised for their complex plots, psychological depth, and exploration of social issues. Among her many accolades, James received the Crime Writers' Association Gold Dagger Award four times, the Edgar Award, and the Cartier Diamond Dagger.
