Daniel Handler (born February 28, 1970), also known by his pen name Lemony Snicket, is an American author known for his children's literature, particularly the popular "A Series of Unfortunate Events" series. Handler began writing at a young age and studied English at Wesleyan University. He worked as a book editor and an arts critic before publishing his first novel under the pseudonym Lemony Snicket. "The Bad Beginning", the first book in the "Series of Unfortunate Events", was released in 1999 and became a critical and commercial success. The series follows the adventures of three orphaned children, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire, as they navigate a series of unfortunate events orchestrated by the villainous Count Olaf. Handler's writing style is characterized by its dark humor, witty asides, and unreliable narrator. The "Series of Unfortunate Events" has sold over 60 million copies worldwide and has been adapted into a feature film and a Netflix television series. Handler has received numerous awards for his work, including three Edgar Awards for Best Juvenile Mystery.
