Rex Stout (1886-1975) was an American mystery writer best known for his Nero Wolfe series. Before his writing career, Stout worked in a variety of occupations, including banking, farming, and advertising. He began writing in his late 40s, and his first Nero Wolfe novel, "Fer-de-Lance," was published in 1934. The series features the brilliant and eccentric detective Nero Wolfe and his assistant, Archie Goodwin. Stout wrote 70 Nero Wolfe novels and novellas, which were praised for their intricate plots and witty dialogue. Stout received numerous awards for his writing, including the Mystery Writers of America Grand Master Award in 1959. His Nero Wolfe novels have been translated into more than 20 languages and have sold millions of copies worldwide. Stout's work has been praised for its psychological depth, social commentary, and enduring popularity.
